USING THE VERB “AVOIR” TO EXPRESS AGE:
In English, we use the verb to be when stating age (I am 20 years old ).

However, in French, we use the verb “avoir,” which means “to have.” It’s like saying ( I have 20 years old).
Here’s the formula: Personal pronoun + verb (avoir in present tense) + age + ans.
Example:
Je + ai + (number) + ans
J’ai vingt-cinq ans. (I have 25 years old, literally).

So, if you’re 16 years old, you’d say, “J’ai 16 ans.”

Let’s check some of these questions below and the right responses in French:
Quel âge avez-vous? (How old are you?)
J’ai quinze ans. (I am 15 years old.)
J’ai vingt-deux ans. (I am 22 years old.)

Now let’s keep practicing with different numbers to build your confidence.

  1. Quel âge as-tu? (How old are you?)
  2. Quel âge a ton frère ? (How old is your brother?)
  3. Quel âge a ta sœur ? (How old is your sister?)
